25.10-BETA.1: Cannot edit VM settings after creation

Hi,

I am a newbie here and started testing TrueNAS to replace my QNAP system with limited options.
I started with the current main release 25.04.02 on my bare metal machine, but was struggeling with installing new Linux VMs (install process got stuck or lagged for minutes). I updated to the latest 25.10-BETA1 from 10th September now and the installation process is much smoother and I can use the VMs afterwards.

What I cannot do is: Change the VMs settings (VM turned off) and safe them. The safe button is always disabled, no matter which value I change in the settings.

Funnily enough, when I close the edit dialog, I receive the “Unsafed changes” dialog:

Anybody else having this issues with the BETA1?
It did work with the main release 25.04,

If I have to create a JIRA ticket for this issue, or post this somewhere else, please tell me and I will do so

Thanks

I have been able to get the Save button to enable by changing the GPU setting (no GPU was not selected during creation but when trying to edit it seems to selects all that are avaliable). By unselecting the GPU(s) the Save Button enables for me.

However… Upon trying to save nothing happens. A little progress bar starts churning away at the top of the edit window and nothing ever happens. Been meaning to get around to opening a JIRA ticket but you know how it goes, so if you have the time go for it

I’m only testing capabilities on a spare system so I just deleted the VM and started over a couple times till I got things the way I wanted.

Also was unable to get a Win11 install image to boot properly. That’s why it’s just Beta…

I think I had a similar issue in release 24.04 with VMs and had to use command lines to make modifications to the VMs. I recommend you use containers instead of VMs as there are benefits for a lighter weight deployment. I have 2 containers running Ubuntu Server and Ubuntu Desktop without issues. Currently running 25.10 Sept 1, 2025 release of TrueNAS.

On a side note, I did create a test vm without installing an os to see if I could modify the cpu and ram settings for the vm and was able to do it & save successfully. I’m not sure if it maybe related to it not having an os installed.

I stepped back to the current released version. Changing and saving VM settings are fine here, but I now struggle again installing a new Ubuntu into this VM…I guess this is a problem of the integrated web-SPICE viewer, as I can see the installer starts and at some point the resolutions changes and the screen goes black.
Well, that’s what it is now. I will wair for 25.10 and hope for the better

I might have a go with the containered version of Ubuntu Desktop. Never tried it before.
Thanks anyway.
