Hello All - I have been running TrueNAS CORE for quite some time, and it appears that besides my desire to be able to use the extra features provided by SCALE, it seems that CORE is getting pretty close to EOL, so I am looking at making the move.
I am currently running TrueNAS-13.0-U6.1 with mirrored SSD boot drives (dataset is on the boot drives, and I’d like to keep it that way so I can run the system with no pools mounted). I have a couple of jails that I can recreate some other way once I have migrated.
I would like to test a migration but have the ability to easily revert. I have 2 new SSDs which I am planning to use for SCALE.
Can I safely:
- Save the configuration file
- Power down CORE
- Pull the CORE boot drives/install a blank SSD
- Install SCALE
- Restore the configuration file.
If I need to go back, can I just power off SCALE and swap the CORE boot drives back in?
Anything I need to watch out for?
Given that my need for stability is far greater than my need for new features, am I better to wait till the release of Fangtooth, or am I better to move to SCALE-24.10.2 (ElectricEel) which IIUC just dropped on January 28, 2025. It appears that release is in a pretty good spot.
Any guidance is much appreciated.
