I have a mirror zpool boot configuration that has run well for years. One of the drives failed to run the SMART check last night and was removed from the pool and taken offline. From the CLI I ran zpool online boot-pool nvme0n1p3 to see if it would come back online - which stated it was online but not added to the pool. Trying to run SMART scan on the drive resulted in “input/output error”. Then I did what should have done from the start and just rebooted the system. The alert cleared, the drive is online, it’s part of the pool…but it had this ominous alert:
“Boot pool status is ONLINE: One or more devices has experienced an unrecoverable error. An attempt was made to correct the error.”
I ran a scrub which made no repairs and found no errors.

I ran the extended SMART scan just fine, no issues alerted. So, I ran zpool clear and scrubbed again. No repairs, no errors, no change at all.
What is your take on this? Should I replace the drive out of an abundance of caution? Are there diagnostics I should perform on other parts of the system?
