Deleting ix-applications dataset

I built a NAS using a few disks I had laying around. I’m now hooked and want replace the old disks with 4 new drives.

The main pool I built on the old disks contains some test data and can be deleted except for a dataset ‘ix-applications’ which I believe was created by the system when I installed my 1st app. What happens if I delete the main pool along with this dataset? Will that mess up my installed applications?

The alternative is to do a clean install using the new disks for the main pool.

Please post your entire hardware, software and pool setup.

Depending on what you post, replacing the drive can be super simple or a completely starting over fresh.

I posted the details to you in another thread.

I don’t mind starting over. It would be good practice to repeat the process while still fresh in my head.

In the app’s tab, have you “unset” the apps pool?

This should stop using the dataset, and you can delete it then.

MikeMen, you started multiple threads lately. You can add your details into your profile signature like a few of the users on the board have and then we just view that.

Stux has a few links and two, expandable lists as an example.

I got my answer to the original question of deleting the main pool with the ix-application dataset.

When I deleted it, TN said it would have to move that and several other system datasets to the remaining pool. It tried to do so, but when it was all over I was left with no applications and no ix-applications dataset.

I think I’ll be doing a clean install.
