Hi there,
running truenas since freenas in my little homelab.
i am running scale CE 25.10.5 on a dell r730 as a serverupgrade and new install.
using a Oracle F40/F80 with 4x100gb (4x200gb) drives as boot drive and for apps.
these cards run on high temperature around 40-50°C which is normal. they go up to 75°C before they throttle.
due to the fact that smartd is no longer really available via GUI or that i can make adjustments via smartd.conf (not working, not changin anything in behavior) i am searching for a workaround.
i dont want an email with a temperature alarm for these 4 devices every couple of minutes. thats why i now changed the alarm regarding disk temp down to “notice”. but thats for all drives now, not my favorite.
i searched for solutions but couldnt find anything.
now i am trying to figure out how to work around this via crontab and smartd.
my question is, if i use this command in crontab “midclt call disk.smart_test SHORT ‘[“*”]’“
will this email me in case of any failure or will it just test the drives and i have to monitor it myself?
what i am searching for is a regular test (short weekly, long monthly) on my disks (all of them, also the 12x10tb sas drives and the 16x 1tb sas SSD) that will email me an alarm if any value is critical (bad_block etc)
i installed scrutiny, but this is only for monitoring, i cant handle emails and alarms with this.
also i would prefer different temp values for the 4x F40 drives as they run hotter than the other
i tried
/dev/disk/by-id/ata-3E128-TS2-550B01_5L004XHK -W 4,45,55
but as i described, any change in smartd.conf doesnt affect anything.
also add
#DEVICESCAN -W 3,40,50 or
#DEVICESCAN -I 194 -I 231
no effect at all.
my wish:
cronjob, one weekly, one monthly,
smartd with the 4 drives temp value set to the limits above, other drives unchanged
email on any warning or critical value.
can anybody at all help me out here.
i think (as far as i read the internet and youtube) i am not the only one missing the smart feature in the webui.
i dont care for the webui, as far as i can adjust the settings so they let me use my hardware correctly.
i also had a different thread about drive temp values which is absolete as you cant change them via smartd or any other way itself. (cant link it here)
in hope for help
kind regards
Stefan
