Electric Eel power hungry?

Hi all!

I am in the middle of getting my house ready to go (semi) off-grid, electrical wise.
(Hybrid solar and battery setup)

So i’ve been monitoring power consumption of all devices so that i can map power usage.

Now examining the server’s power usage i see that the usage is spiking every minute:

This is including my base power usage, some lights, freezer etc.
I have put the server on it’s own power plug meter, and measured the usage is about 80-90W. (TrueNAS Scale 24.10.1, Dragonfish)

Which i think is fine considering the hardware. (E-2244G, 8x Exos 16TB, m1015 HBA, X520 NIC)

But the power spikes seemed odd to me, read up on the forum, etc. Some posts indicate the same behaviour, and some solved this by updating the system.

So i went ahead, and upgraded to Electric Eel (24.10.2.1) that night, with this result:

And the power meter measuring 140-160W.

Eh… downgraded again:

Netdata screenshot of the period:

As you can see, similar load and cpu use, but very different power use. Somehow the cpu pulls twice its needed power budget?

Later this day i tested some more, cycling between DragonFish and Electric Eel.
Above results are consistent, Electric Eel consumes 60-80% more in my use case than DragonFish.

Normally i couldn’t care less about power consumption, but as i’m sizing batteries for runtime…
And the utility bills nowadays

Nevermind the funny title in context, none of mentioned features warrant this kind of change in power consumption, do they?
