Failover / Standby

Hi,
Currently, I have two TrueNAS SCALE servers that I want to use as primary and secondary. I have virtual machines (Windows servers) running on TrueNAS. I have already configured the primary server and I want to have the exact same configuration on the secondary server, using it as a failover or standby server so that if something happens to the primary server, I can bring the secondary server online within a maximum of one to two hours.

How can I synchronize the two servers, and what kind of failover plan or solution can I set up between the two servers?

Please note that I’m currently using the standard version of TrueNAS SCALE, but if there is a good solution available in the professional version, I am open to upgrading.

In any case, I’d like to know if anyone has experience with this kind of setup.

There’s no buildin way for failover in the free version of truenas. You’d have to manually create a sync workflow for files, shares, users vms etc and the enterprise version of truenas is only available on hardware purchased by iX systems.

Thank you for your comment.
I also ran many tests, and as a result, I decided to use this method:
ZFS Snapshot + Replication.

Yeah different levels of failover. The faster and more seamless often come at a price and it also depends on what services you want to failover be it VMs, SMB etc. Snapshots and Replication are a good catch all and are essentially free.

But as always test your backups/failover and make sure they provide you with the desired outcome.
