Good deal on hardware?

I just picked up a Lenovo Thinkserver TS150 w/ 8 GB ram, no HDDs, and Xeon E3-1225 V5 3.3GHz for $83.
I’m a Mac guy but I thought this was a pretty good price. Looks like it holds 4x 3.5 or 5x 2.5 drives.

What do you guys think?

It depends on what is inside the case. But it isn’t a bad price. For TrueNAS you should double the RAM at a minimum.

Also, does it really work? Or is it broken.

IMHO is a good price, especially if is provided with 8gb ram ECC.

Sure, that’s not a bad price. I would definitely do something about that RAM situation. My phone has more memory…

Yes, I was planning to add more ram eventually.
Right now I’m using a MacBook Pro, it’s only got 8GB, and it seems to be humming along pretty good. I’m not running anything crazy. Plex, Wordpress, NPM, PrerollPlus.

It would have no problem running, but ram is cheap and zfs benefits from it.

By all means, give it a try and see if you need more for how you use it. Services alone use 70gb on my nas, but it’s doing a lot.

Is there a recommended 2.5GB NIC that will work well with TrueNAS?

Why bother with 2.5g nics? Go straight to 10Gb, you’ll be happier in the long run. 10GB NICS used are cheap and switches have finally come into the affordable range.

Sure, if they’re the same price. I have a 2.5GB switch, and 2.5GB connection to Internet,
But the question remains.
What’s a good, well supported one?
