Help finding compatable "super quiet" or SQ PSU

Server: 8048B-TRFT

Or perhaps more important CHASSIS: SC848XTS-R3240BP

This server is quad CPU with quad PSU. I planned on ripping out the board for a single or dual socket motherboard. Also I’m sure just 2 or even one PSU would suffice? I will only have 12-16 drive bays populated. Looking for the compatible SQ PSU I could throw in this to help with noise level and also the quantity needed.

Thanks, I’m not very experienced with supermicro.

The only compatible PSU listed on the product page for that server is the PWS-1K62P-1R, which I don’t believe is SQ. Four sockets of E7s is going to be a bit of a screamer, I’m afraid.

I plan to put a dual or even single socket board in there and just run 2 PSU. Question is will the chassis function and/or boot with only 2 PSU? I assume it would based on the board being dual or single.

I’ve seen this may be compatible by some research on other threads but it is not on the validated chassis list by supermicro.

PSU is PWS-1K23A-SQ…any thoughts?

I’m not sure that’s supported. That chassis only lists compatibility with one board in a proprietary form factor, and looking at some photos of it, it doesn’t have the typical back panel arrangement.

Ahhh ok

I guess safer to go with a 36 bay 4U then. On these 4U are they still 80mm fans or are they 140mm for more static pressure? I am under the ASSUMPTION that 4U is less noisy than 2U. Again this is just an assumption. I will likely only ever need a max of 16 bays, at least for the life of this thing say 6-10 years.

Since I have you do you know how efficient these are with half the drive bays? This is why I’m also leaning single socket, I wont need compute on this box, just enough for truenas. My proxmox sever already sucks some major energy so Im trying to keep it low. I could always build something very quiet and efficient in a 4U desktop chassis but the cost would be at least double that of a $300 ready to go supermicro box. More than likely pushing $900 based on the prices of cases I’ve seen.

Any thoughts?
