Help Needed: TrueNAS SCALE Pool in Suspended State + k3s and SMB Issues

Hello everyone,

I’m facing a critical issue with my TrueNAS SCALE system, and I’d really appreciate some guidance. Here’s a detailed breakdown of what happened:

1. Setup and Goal:

  • I’m running TrueNAS SCALE, and my main goal was to install Plex to manage my media content.
  • During the setup, I ran into errors related to Kubernetes (k3s) networking issues.

2. Encountered Issues:

  • Kubernetes Errors: When attempting to start k3s for Plex, I received an error related to missing network configurations or a default IPv4 route.
  • Disk Warning: TrueNAS flagged one of my disks (ST2000VX007-2AY102 ZFM0D09T) as DEGRADED.

3. Pool Deletion Accident:

  • I accidentally deleted my main ZFS pool, which contained all my SMB shares and important data.
  • I ran commands to check the disks and confirmed that the data still seems to exist on the hard drive.

4. Attempts to Recover:

  • I tried to use zpool import, but I got an error stating: “cannot import ‘pool’: a pool with that name already exists.”
  • Running zpool status shows that my boot-pool is ONLINE, but my main data pool (pool) is SUSPENDED due to I/O failures, with some data errors reported.

5. Commands Used:

  • zpool status shows the pool as SUSPENDED.
  • I attempted zpool clear pool to clear errors, but it didn’t resolve the issue.
  • I considered exporting and re-importing the pool, but I’m not sure if that’s the right move.

6. Other Issues:

  • The smbd.service has been failing to start, likely due to missing dependencies related to the deleted pool.
  • I’m also trying to understand if I can access this data on a Linux system using ZFS tools, as Windows won’t natively support ZFS.

Questions:

  1. What’s the best approach to recover a SUSPENDED pool and bring it back online safely?
  2. Should I attempt to export and re-import the pool, or are there better methods to recover from a suspended state?
  3. How can I handle the k3s network configuration issue for setting up Plex?
  4. Any guidance on the DEGRADED disk and whether it could be contributing to these problems?

Thank you so much for your time and help. Any insights would be greatly appreciated!

There are multiple issues here. As for Plex and k3s, the best solution is to start anew with Docker on Electric Eel, so we might skip that and worry about recovering this pool.

This is not enough to understand what you did and how bad the damage might be.

What commands? For what output?

So you deleted potentially relevant error messages, but do not disclose what these were.

Full hardware description and full output of sudo zpool status and sudo zpool import within triple backticks (``` , </> button) please. lsblk and smartctl -x /dev/sdX for the degraded disk would also be of relevance.

I dont know what </> means sorry
