this is my storage configuration can any one guide me how to add media files in plex library
“Plex Data Storage” is where Plex stores its metadata. Create a new dataset for this, on SSD if you can.
Then in these settings add an additional storage definition which is a Host path
and which points to your multimedia and set it to mount in the container as /media
.
When you go into Plex server settings and create a library you point it to /mount
or a sub-directory of that.
Yes, but the OP, and my question as well, is how to get the media files from my windows box into the “Movies” folder of the truenas machine?
-
create a SMB share of the media folder and set up a user that has access to it
-
then transfer your movies over from windows via the network
And my point was that he hasn’t configured his Plex app storage settings correctly. He needs to define his Datasets correctly BEFORE he moves his media over.
PLUS he has mounted his root dataset as the location for Plex metadata which is definitely bad practice.
sir thanks for your reply .
i am not that much techy do you have any video or article with step by step for reference .
thank you
@chaksu2002 Are you completely incapable of doing a Youtube or Google search yourself to find the answers or a video?
Please do your own research rather than expect other people to do it for you!!!
What you may not realize is that this thread becomes a part of the research that other people are doing to solve this very problem. For example, I have the same issue, but you’ve killed the potential solution in its tracks. Of course I can go else where but this page might have actually helped me out. You were already very helpful earlier in the thread so maybe if you are not interested in helping further, you can just say nothing that way the thread feels open to others’ answers. Anyway, have a nice day!
This is the key: part of the research. TrueNAS has pretty extensive documentation, and it’s linked at the top of every single page in this forum. The response to “create a SMB share and transfer your data to it,” when a video link has already been provided, should not be “can you hold my hand through this?” We, like God, help those who help themselves. We’re generally quite responsive to “I’m confused about this particular part of the docs,” but not so much to “hold my hand and explain it to me like I’m a toddler.”
Hey there,
So I have it all set, I thought. I have made a dataset for my plex, I made a dataset for my plex config, and I told it to route data there, however I could not find a way to have the container mount the dataset as /media. Am I missing something obvious?
