I tried to upgrade my truenas server from 24.04 to 25.04 today and all my applications disapeared. I didn’t know my server was this out of date and only after upgrading I found a blog post from truenas about the june 1st aplication update deadline.
How can I fix my applications? I have the config backup from upgrading and all my apps data is still in the ix-aplications folder in my pool.

Several announcements were made ahead of time, at this stage, users who did not upgrade from 24.04 before the 1st June and utilize apps must redeploy the apps.
This is the stupidest thing I’ve seen all year. You fail to upgrade in a specified time and now you’re SOL? Keeping in mind that at no point in time did I get a notification from my system about this. How is a user that’s not deeply invested in the TrueNAS community supposed to know that an app migration has a deadline?! How do you even come up with something like that?
At least give me an option to manually migrate instead of just nuking all my apps when I hit the update button.

you can manually migrate but that includes a fresh install of your apps. All the data is still in the ix-volumes dataset, or hostpaths, if you used any. Get the data outside the pvc to datasets, point the new installs to those datasets as hostpaths and you should be good.
Not only was there nothing within truenas, but pressing “check for updates” showed “no updates avalible” untill you manualy switched update trains to the later versions.
all other software would default to checking the latest stable release, or have some indication or notification that a new version was available. I assumed that the newer versions were something like a beta or prerelese, since ‘check for updates’ didn’t show anything.
it is definitely unintuitive and misleading.
I’ve gone through every major and minor release of scale since its release and i was notified by the gui of each update, maybe you just did not notice…
I’m somewhat sympathetic here, but only somewhat. On the one hand, yes, iX badly bungled this transition, and also reneged on their explicit promise to fully support 24.04 for at least a year after 24.10’s release.
On the other hand, you bought in to a product with a 6-month release cycle and a very aggressive EOL policy (the “one year from next release” promise, if they’d kept it, was unusually long for them), from a company with a long history of mismanaging updates, all of which is very public information, even if they are a little too fond of closing threads that get critical of them.
You had eight months to upgrade. At some point, you have only yourself to blame for not doing so timely. And, IMO, you should think hard before trusting (or using) their apps ecosystem again.[1]

It only notifies you of updates within the current train. So if I install 24.10.2.4, it shows this on the dashboard (even after checking for updates):
If you change trains, sure, you’ll see 25.04–but you need to take that affirmative step to see that there’s an upgrade available.
