Linux VM on Truenas Core - Error

I was trying to install a VM on my Truenas Core server, but all I got was an error at the end. I’ve been looking through several posts, but nothing worked.
beginning:

i use the same IP as the server

processor: i5 4670s, 4c 4t
ram: 4x4GB DDR3
storage: 2x 1TB HDD

I have no idea what this error code is trying to say. Can someone explain to me what it wants from me? Thank you.

Did you verify that your have the virtualization features turned on in the BIOS? You didn’t list any hardware details so I don’t know what it would be called for your setup.

Hardware:
i5 4670s
4x4GB DDR3 RAM
1x 128GB boot ssd
2x 1TB storage HDD

I’ll go into the bios and look for something like that, i will post a picture then.

The exact model of the mb would be helpful, I guess.

This system does not support virtualization indeed points to one of the features not being enabled in BIOS.

The number of threads is Number of Threads per Core. Your CPU has 4 cores and 4 threads, passing 2 cores x 2 threads to the VM is probably not going to work?

grafik

so this are the system informations from BIOS:

Why wont 2 cores 2 threads work?
Edit: I cant find anything with “virtualisatio” or something like that in the bios.
another edit: I found something.

With scale at least, it is threads per core, not total number of threads. So try 2 cores 1 thread (per core)? Or click on the little question mark to see the explanation.

ok thank you i’ll try that. and bios options: which of them do i have to enable?

Without knowing the technology truenas uses, I’d try both?

i activated both, and:

ok wow. i never thought it would be that easy. But how do i access it? Does it have virtualisation?

The State is showing powered off. You would have to turn it on with the slider, otherwise, try checking the TrueNAS documentation as I don’t think you have done an Linux install in the VM yet.

Maybe try watching some YouTube videos if you can find ones.

I am watching a tutorial right now. I also have this VNC whatever thing, but mine only displays a shell and not the ubuntu setup the guy in the video has.
mine:

Did you hit ESC or any other key? I am not familiar with the boot process for VMs on Core.

yes I tried multiple times, but I am either not fast enough because i only have about 1-2 seconds or it wont accept my inputs. i also tried “help”, but there are no useful commands. I also have a screen connected to the server but it only displays the Truenas console.

ok so i tried several commands, including “exit” and this is what I get:

You have to mount an installation ISO to the VM somehow.

Try changing your display size for VNC to fix the garbles.

Try going through the VM setup setting for the VM you created and check the tool tip for Delay VM Boot Until VNC Connects. It was your second screen shot when setting up VM. You may need that checked???

Otherwise, I am hoping someone else posts that has gone through this setup of a VM

Just saw etorix post. Check devices in the VM and make sure the ISO is there. Boot order may matter also.

ISO is there, Ubuntu 22.04. How do I change the boot order?

I think the documents said it goes by the device id or something. 1000, 1001, etc. Device order

Did you check the box to wait until VNC connects also?

If you’re really stuck, try going through the VM creation process again now that you have the BIOS virt features turned on.
