Hello all, After a lot of reading (mostly here) I’m realizing I can do a lot better in both my setup (for future growth) as well as in my back-up system. I would to ask you folks to give me some pointers in (to you) obvious improvements. I do have money to spend (hence the upgrade within a year of …

Okay, I have a conclusion on the PSU: be quiet! Dark Power 13 750W With that the setup is: Fractal Design Node 804 be quiet! Dark Power 13 750W AsRock Rack E3C246D4U2-2T Intel Xeon E-2246G with Noctua NH-U12S G.Skill Aegis F4-2133C15D-32GIS (so 2x 16GB) M.2 NVME Western Digital Black SN7100 500 G…

Above build would be using all new components, but searching the local market places I found the following setup (for €400,-) I might be able to use. I’ve seen quite some messages on this forum with statements about trusting used server hardware better than new consumer level desktop/game hardware a…

[image] Looking for advice on a 6-bay diy build TrueNAS General Hey everyone, I’m planning to build my first proper TrueNAS SCALE setup and could use some advice from people with more experience. I’ve done quite a bit of reading and have a general plan, but I’d like to sa…

Thanks, appreciate the links. Found them (and similar) as well, but as I’m really unfamiliar with the Supermicro boards I find it difficult to tell if the board I found (the X10SLL+F) is worth the effort compared to the boards listed in those discussions. I’m convinced the second hand server hardwa…

IMO 400 EUR is at the top end, what I would be willing to pay for a 12 year old system with only 16GB of DDR3 memory. Its for sure powerfull enough for a NAS, bur not optimal. DDR3 ECC UDIMM instead of the plentyfull available DDR4 ECC RDIMM 22nm process CPU , MAX memory 32 GB only 2x SATA3, rest…

I’m not planning the use of virtual machines, but the suggested Xeon E-2246G does seem to have onboard video which is a benefit (for the occasional start-up and look into the Bios). For the AsRock Rack board I do think it is an interesting option, but I hear quite some bad rep about support. Superm…

Thanks to its IPMI function you dont need to hook up a monitor. You can set up the system remotely and manage it remotely over the network. Including a virtual screen. Any Xeon E-2100/2200 would fit. The “G” Versions include the GPU.

Well, small update: Ordered the AsRock Rack E3C246D4U2-2T and Intel Xeon E-2246G, both should arrive somewhere early December. I’ll combine the CPU with a Noctua NH-U12S CPU fan, 2 sticks of 16GB ECC RAM * in a Fractal Design Node 804 housing. *Edit to add: did not fully realize how difficult it …

Thanks for the tips. I have just ordered some straight cable connectors with some other stuff (the case, fan, etc) but that won’t break the bank of I have to buy some more. I’ll look into those power supply splitters. I realized this morning that although I deleted my earlier selected PSU (too ligh…
