Hi,
I’ve been having issues with one particular Mac when trying to edit or deleting small txt file located on a TrueNAS Core SMB share.
The weird thing about this is that this is happening for a particular Mac – another Mac in my house appears to be working correctly, and they’re both running the latest version of Sequoia (15.3). On the other hand TrueNAS was also recently updated to its latest version (TrueNAS-13.0-U6.7).
This is what’s happening basically: when trying to edit .txt files with TextEdit or other editor such as CotEditor, I can see the file opening up rather quickly, but as soon as I make any changes, the editor “locks up” (ie, spinning wheel) and I can see temporary files and directories appearing in the share. If I’m lucky, and after maybe ~5 seconds, the file is saved with changes and those temporary files/directories go away. I’m I’m not, TextEdit will throw an error saying the file could not be saved, and sometimes I may have even lost the original file and now have the temporary file with the changes. This is happening on 2.5Gbps wired Ethernet connection.
I’m also facing issues when trying to delete files. If I want to delete, say, 5 of these .txt files, I will roughly have to wait 5 seconds for each of them.
Thinking this might be related to changes I introduced to /etc/nsmb.conf, I deleted that file and tried again (after rebooting of course), with the same results. I also tried creating a brand new local user, but same thing happened.
Any idea of what could be causing this? Should I do something else to basically reset the macOS smb settings? I also disabled antimalware while testing (Crowdstrike) thinking that may be getting in the middle.
Also, is there any way to trace what’s happening while the operation is taking place?
Knowing that this is only happening for one Mac, it must be something related to its settings or some other kind of software installed on it, but it would be great if you can provide some advice on other ways to find the root of this problem…
Thanks!
