Migration away from Synology

Basically the long term suggests a move away from Synology due to their desire to lock the hardware to their own drives. I currently use surveillance solution to monitor some wired/wireless cameras.
Does TrueNAS (which I found out about today), offer any software add-ons that interface with video cameras?
Thanks All!

You do realize that TrueNAS also locks stuff behind their hardware?
Like the cassis view?

Don’t get me wrong, I dislike Synology and their crappy software.
I also think that moving to TrueNAS is the right move.
But not because Synology will lock down some optional none important features that their competition (QNAP) did never had to begin with.

No or not officially. But you can run 3th party apps in Docker or VMs

The app Frigate is available in the catalog, is that the kind of thing you were looking for? https://frigate.video/

Frigate as a docker app works OK with the Reolink cameras I bought, and it’s surprisingly easy to manage the data storage side in Truenas (tmpfs and a single dedicated storage pool).

The real problem with Frigate in Truenas is the lack of driver support for AI components such as Coral, which might require hosting Frigate in a VM.
