Modern HBA wanted for TrueNAS

Good evening,

It has been several years since I have built a TrueNAS box. The one I have now has been running peacefully on a Dell PowerEdge R720 with a firmware flashed HBA from the big auction site which was recommended to me at a time (I have it linked in my signature).

As I said I’m now several years down the road and would like to build a newer TrueNAS box on Dell PowerEdge 14G hardware. To compliment that, I feel like a newer firmware flashed HBA is in order. In addition, my old box is still in use so I can’t steal that one (yet).

Would anyone be willing to provide a link to a reputable vendor or specific HBA model for my use case (I’ve got a number of flash/SSD drives to install, both SAS and SATA varieties but I’ll likely stick with SAS)? Through my initial searching, it sounds like there’s a lot of scams out there now for firmware flashed HBAs and I’d rather not flush $ down the toilet and/or waste a bunch of time.

Thank you in advance,
Jas

One thing a person will need to know is how many and the types of drives you desire to hook up to this HBA. We could give you an HBA for 8 drives when you really needed 16 connections. Be as detailed with the requirement as you can. Also, the pool types and it wouldn’t hurt to mention the drive model numbers if you have those. How fast does it need to be? Is it in a case a U1, U2, U3 as the Gen 14 comes in various configurations as the Dell site suggests.

Also, always buy from a reputable seller, preferably one you have used already. If I want to know I’m getting a valid product, I purchase from a significant well known store such as NewEgg.com and yes, I may pay a little more but it is rarely a lot more and peace of mind is well worth it.
