Motherboard Choice

Hello, I am looking to build my first NAS from scratch. I have read a lot of topics about motherboards and other hardware. I have found a good deal on the Jonsbo N4 case, so I am looking for the motherboard and the PSU. I plan to use only 2 HDDs and 1 SSD for now to start my NAS, and step-by-step, use the full potential of the case—and probably find a way to access the NAS from outside the house, but nothing more.

Currently, I have seen some small PSUs like the be quiet! SFX Power 3 450W, but it’s not a modular one, and I wonder if a non-modular one will work in that small Jonsbo N4. I have also seen some brands unknown to me, like Chieftec and Sharkoon, for the same price as the be quiet! but with modular cables and more power, so I’m wondering what the catch is with those proposals.

My second question is about the motherboard. A lot of standard PC motherboards don’t specify compatibility with Linux/TrueNAS, and I have read there is some trouble with the Realtek® GbE LAN chip connector or RTL8111H in TrueNAS. Based on my current knowledge, a good motherboard should have at least 2.5G LAN, H.264/5 support, and virtualization (VT-x).

I have taken a look at “unconventional” motherboards like the ones on Amazon and AliExpress, but it’s a complete mess for me to find the difference between each model, what to look for, and if there are any issues or bottlenecks from certain components.

Can you give me some recommendations?
