My pool 'boot-pool' has encountered an uncorrectable I/O failure and has been suspended

hello,

today i noticed that my smb was unreachable and realized that Truenas had crashed and spitted this error in on the monitor :pool ‘boot-pool’ has encountered an uncorrectable I/O failure and has been suspended

i could not soft shutdown via IPMI and had to RESET system via IPMI. it rebboted fine, but a couple hours later it did it again. so i went into the shell and ran sudo smartctl -a /dev/sdi

truenas_admin@FREENAS\[\~\]$

from what i could googled the smart info do not indicate any failure or heavily worn drive.

i have a backup of my config. should i reinstalled the os and restore the config, could it be a cable or something else or the way it failed it is definitively a premature drive failure (manufactured in March 2020)

I’d 100% reseat the cables. If possible swap out the sata data wire if you got spares (short is generally better).

If you have other sata ports on the motherboard available try moving it over.

Nothing immediately jumps out as disk failed to me.

I’d say go for that—on a new boot device.
64% remaining life and throwing SATA errors at unknown times (zero? really?) does not looks good. A new boot device is cheaper than spending time diagnosing the issue.

That sata ssd is rubbish. I had it for years and it worked fine until it started behaving like yours. Exact same model. It still works for light use but I do not trust it with zfs.

Get an intel dc ssd and use it instead. A 150GB one for 20-25 bucks is worth every penny.
