My initial thought was to get a HBA, but with the C2x6 boards there are always 8 SATA ports and I don’t (yet) plan to add more drives. The case also just has room for 8-10 drives including the OS SSD.
I also thought about getting the ASRock C236M WS. It is just another option to reuse my i3-6100.
Regarding GTX1050: I thought about replacing it sometime in the future with an ARC380 or similar, as it is not supported anymore by default with TrueNAS. Only after installing the older driver.
Definitely not in the foreseeable future.
No, as mentioned above I don’t have the space in the case and I also don’t require that much space.
No, I only use it for app config and maybe VMs. And if the 256GB should not suffice I can still upgrade to a bigger NVME
If you have any suggestions board wise, even with another CPU in case it is more sensible than the i3-6100, I’m always open to that. Just the RAM is already bought and thus limited to 2400Mhz
No matter what you decide to do when building a new system. If you’re building a system from scratch instead of buying a pre-built one, make sure to get a power supply from Bicker.de They’re designed for 24/7 operation, and some are also rated for an extended temperature range.
I was asking all this, because if you plan any of those, this MoBo might not be the best for those purposes.
If you dont plan, then you are fine with that!
On the other hand, dont be afraid not to keep that CPU. YOu can buy thoserelatively for pennies. It does not make much sense to stick to a platform, just because a <20USD CPU…
Thanks for the advice. Right now I’m using the be quiet! Pure Power 10 CM 400W that I had from the old system. I hope that is enough for the next 5 years.
True. I might reconsider the options listed above by all of you. The only thing I might have to stick with are the RAM sticks that I’ve already bought.
