Today, we’re excited to introduce a number of new features in the new TrueNAS Daily Builds.
First off, a new level of parity protection is available in TrueNAS - RAID-FG or File Generation. Similar to the revolutionary new AI technologies used to synthesize pixels and frames for video games, TrueNAS with RAID-FG can now synthesize data from protection groups with up to 15 out of 16 drives missing. We anticipate that both members of the TrueNAS Community who managed to purchase an NVIDIA 50-series GPU will be excited to test this new feature.
Up next, we’ve hear the call for better integration with smart home devices - so we’re adding support for the new PoEoEoP (“PEEP” for short) - Power over Ethernet over Ethernet over Powerline standard. PEEP will let you power your low-draw smart home devices using a standard 18AWG cable - although, there are regional interoperability challenges still to overcome, so please ensure you’re purchasing the correct outlet type for your area. Tests have found this to be superior to PoEoIPoAC (Power over Ethernet over IP over Avian Carriers) which suffered from severe packet loss issues (but paired very well with an oaked chardonnay).
Finally, the increased push for security has led to the availability of the new STFTP protocol. Built atop the existing SFTP protocol, STFTP will automatically deny all traffic from a source upon detecting a failed login attempt. The even more secure STFUTP protocol is also available for high-security installations, which will prevent all logins from any source in response to intrusion attempts.
Let us know how your experiences are with these new features!
and happy April Fool’s Day
