NFS and SMB share "lag on connect" since 25.10 upgrade from linux/windows clients

,

Same problem here, so its not just me i guess.

I have the same issue on both of my Truenas servers.

I upgraded them from 25.4.x to 25.10, and after that moment samba shares work ‘differently.
I use Total commander on my windows machine to view the content of the Samba share.
I can see files, and open files, but after i look at the files ones, navigate a directory higher, and go back to the same directory were previously files could be seen: nothing. No files visible.

Chatgpt noted that Truenas uses recent samba version, that notifies samba clients (in my case total commander) differently. Maybe that’s the problem ?

I have the same since 20.10.0. This causes trouble if you periodically sync files between different NAS, just as I do.

I have to add, that I only encounter that issue in the root folder. Whenever I navigate in subfolders, I don’t have that problem anymore.

I wonder if the issues could be related to this introduction in 25.10?

Enable access-based-enumeration for NFSv4 acltype shares

I’ve started to experience exactly same problem after 25.10 upgrade

I run Lightroom with photos residing on NAS and Lightroom will be thinking directories go offline just to reappear back in few mins.

When this happens in Lightroom, I also see Explorer window with NAS share goes blank.

I also noticed SMB speed went down from 1.2GB/s to ~800-900 after 25.10 upgrade

How do you revert from 25.10 if I didn’t make a config backup in 25.04.2.5 ?

Is my only option to re-install and re-import pools ?

its way easier then that. go to system → boot choose your old 25.04 boot environment and reboot. bam your back on 25.04

thank you!

Having the same issue, revert back to 25.04 problem solved.

I have similar issue. SMB shares don’t even display in Nautilus (OpenSuSE Tumbleweed). Reverted back to 25.04.x and it’s working again.

Has anybody tried this from the Jira ticket?

Does the issue occur if you run the following command

midclt call smb.update '{"smb_options": "smb3 directory leases = Yes"}'

same issue here, i noticed a weird issue when having some batch scripts running on a windows maschine with SMB share. Right after eg a delete command in my CMD the path gets inaccessible and back accessible few moments later.

My batch script fails as the next command depents eg on a file written to the share

im unsure what this does, but from my short testing and my friends new install the issue “fixed” it self temporarily it just takes a bit longer to create the directory as you need to refresh the folder and stuff.

So I tried with 3 different machines for 3 days know and I have to say that 25.10 seems to me the worst release I’ve had all years. SMB is totally unusable in this state.

Count me in also having this issue. I, too, have Emby and am seeing the same behavior where shows completely disappear despite them being there when I go and manually browse for them in Windows Explorer. It doesn’t appear to be Emby related–the only thing I changed was updating my TrueNAS server. I just downgraded to 25.04.2.6 and am rescanning my files now. It takes a few days so I’ll let that run and report back, but based on what I’m seeing I expect everything to be working with 25.04.

Total **** I agree

Let’s keep the feedback constructive folks.

One more of this issue here. I use a windows file synchronisation program between windows and TrueNAS (“Bart”). It saw a myriad of differences where none existed.

Went back to 24.04, which solved it

Your right, it is not Emby, my Jellyfin server behaves the exact same way, it is definitely Truenas.
