[Not Accepted] Kernel module md-mod.ko missing

Hello folks,

I have 2x 8TB HDDs that were used in an old QNAP NAS. They are in software RAID0 mode (so 16TB of data), and I need to mount them in the new TrueNAS Scale to copy the data onto a newly created ZFS RAID-Z2. The problem is that the new distribution is missing the “md-mod.ko” kernel module, so I am unable to assemble the old RAID0 and mount it. In the old TrueNAS, “md-mod.ko” is functional, but in the new distribution, where it is not compiled, it cannot be loaded using insmod or modprobe.

Thanks in advance for your help,

M.

You’ll be told to just copy the data over the local network.

Another option is to pass the drives through to a VM running your favorite Linux distro and transfer them from there to the host.

Yes, this is last but slow solution…

Maybe 40 hours to transfer 16TB over a gigabit connection. That’s assuming that your QNAP is at 100%. At half capacity, it would take maybe 20 hours to transfer the data.
