Partition Nvme so OS and apps can run off it?

So i had an old 13.3 install and i am creating a new storage server running 25.10.0 - Goldeye. setup is straight forward:

i7 9th gen

32GB ram

512 GB Nvme OS

2 x 24TB Seagate Exos for the storage pool

My question is can you partition the Nvme install TrueNas on say a 50 GB partition and then create a second partition that i can run apps off of like plex?

No, just like you can’t do it in CORE. TrueNAS, and FreeNAS before it, have always and only supported having a dedicated boot device. Yes, you can hack around it if you like, but you’ll be deep into unsupported territory if you choose to do this.

ah make sense, i probably have a small SSD sitting around i can throw that in as the boot device and then leverage the NVME on its own

That’s a FALSE statement!

You certainly can do it!

But unless you are an expert, not recommended.

I have done it and never had issues, but then I simply changed to an external USB SSD/nvme for the OS boot drive and had never looked back!

Not if you’re capable of reading and understanding three sentences in context.
