Pass Mobo USB controller

Dear TrueNas Expers,

I have been unsuccessful in passing my MOBO’s back USB ports to a VM. I have tried a Kubuntu VM, as well as Windows 7, but no luck. I have tried all of the various controller types available, no luck. I have tried all of the various visible hubs, no luck.

What is the trick?

The only success I have seen is seeing an unrecognized USB device in Windows 7. At least I know that the port I was plugging into is attached to the controller I was passing through.

Is there anything inherently wrong with this setup?
I have ordered a PCIe card to make this easier, but it is ridiculous that this seems to be unsupported.

Thanks,
Daniel

I use controller type qemu-xhci. On my HAOS VM I had to move the usb to a different port to get it to work (I think it was usb 2.0 vs 3.0). Try those things. Also motherboard model and bios info is helpful.

Hi Theo,

Many thanks for the hint. I have tried qemu-xhci, but the USB flash drive was not recognized. I also moved the drive across all 6 back ports. I formatted it using FAT32 to make sure it would work across many operating systems.

Motherboard is Prime B760M-A-CSM
BIOS is latest 1810
