Plex stuck on deploying

I recently moved over from TrueNAS Core 13.2 to TrueNAS Scale 24.04, and have installed Plex media server After setting it up and clicked install , Plex has been stuck on 'deploying for about an hour now.

Anyone know why this is and if there is a setting to change somewhere.
Is there a setup guide for Plex on TrueNAS scale somewhere. I have looked but I haven’t found anything that relates to my setup. IE they were older versions of either Plex or TrueNAS scale

You would need to show what the logs say and show screen shots of your app setup

When I clicked on the view logs icon, it said there were no pools set up.

Well that’s weird as I have this: /mnt/WinShare/Media/Films

So how do I set up a pool for plex. I don’t recall having to do this with TrueNAS core.

Is that asking for you to set an app pool?

Sorry, but can you be more specific, as I’m not sure what you are asking.

One thing or setting I’ve noticed is that Plex Configuration Storage, Type is set at
ixVolume (Dataset created automatically by the system) , and I can’t change it.

Now I don’t know if that is right or not??

First, CORE 13.2 does not exist, did you mean CORE 13.3?

Second, if you migrated, CORE plugins do not migrate to SCALE so you need to configure the Plex app in SCALE from scratch.

For more information about migrating, what can move and what does not please see:

and

It should have forced him to select a pool for apps before allowing him into the install apps screen.

That is expected in the Edit screen. Once you’ve set up the app using an ixVolume, the only way to change to a host path is to delete and reinstall the app.

Can you post the exact error message you received in the Plex logs?

It just says ‘No pools set up’ nothing else

Sorry, I missed this part of your comment.

The default is ixVolume, which creates the storage volume nested in the ix-applications dataset (pre-24.10 releases) or the ix-apps as of 24.10.

Before attempting to use the installation wizard for Plex, go to Datasets and create the datasets you want/need to use for your app. We recommend creating a parent dataset such as apps as the parent to all datasets created for application storage. It just keeps things tidy and easier to find especially if you have a lot of datasets.

After creating the datasets you can then launch the installation wizard and set Type to the Host Path option where you can enter or browse to select the dataset to set the path.

Ok, I have the Host path config for set to /mnt/WinShare/Apps , which is a new dataset I created.
Then for Plex data storage I have /mnt/WinShare/Media/Movies
Plex is stuck on ‘deploying’ again. I don’'t know what else i should do now.

Thanks

Do you see the icon for the logs on the Workloads widget for the Plex app? it shows what is going on if the container is deployed to the point where it shows logs.

If not, you might have to open a Jira ticket.

No I can’t see Workloads widget , where that might be

What is a Jira ticket then
The logs say: At least one pool must be available to use apps , ok but how do I set that up.
Thanks

Okay back to basics then.

To set up apps, you must first choose the pool for apps to use. The UI prompts you the first time you go to the Apps screen, and if you miss that, then click on Settings and then Choose a Pool.

Next you go to the Discover screen to install the app. After that it returns you to the Installed apps screen. Select the row for Plex in the table to see the widgets for that app. Find the Workloads or depending on your release it might say Containers.

This article covers the basics:

If you’ve done all this and still cannot deploy the app, click on the option in the forum header to open a JIra ticket/Report a Bug, at the top of the screen.

In Settings, where does it say Choose a Pool, because I cannot see where. What section is it in, …Storage??

Applications > Settings

Yes, but whereabouts in stettings, what section

Settings button on right hand side, select Choose Pool.

Aah, that one. I had to choose a pool before I could see the apps. That’s why I didn’t realise where you meant. I thought you meant the plex app settings…doh!
The pool is the one where my media files are.

Ok so I have the pool, what now

As I said for the Host path configuration I have : /mnt/WinShare/Media/Films, in the storage section

It did force me to select a pool before I could discover any apps.

So you enabled ACL but didn’t add any entries. What is the Dataset preset you are using on the dataset you are selecting, is it Generic, SMB, Apps…?
