And this version: TrueNAS SCALE Fangtooth 25.04 [release]
Heh… I just tried pressing Online, it changes nothing, still the same error. But maybe that’s because of the disc’s corruption?
Maybe try using the command line. Progress should be reported by using zpool status main
zpool attach -s main sda sdb This should skip checksums until complete, then scrub if complete
If that doesn’t work or you want to try the Force option.
zpool attach -f main sda sdb
The only guaranteed way:
Create new pool as desired and the copy/replicate data.
You can play with trying adding a mirror to the stripe, but you need to get rid of the stripe right?
It should work, but only until you do it, you will know.
I vote for this way. I don’t really understand the reason behind making a mirror with the failed/failing drive.
I would create a new pool with the new drive and replicate data from the old pool (or mb just even copy it, assuming the pool’s degraded state). If you for some reason think that the old drive can be actually ok, then I would format it and add it to the new pool afterwards (creating desired mirror).
I do agree, this IS the way to go, but only if replication worked. Before my shenanigans with extending that VDEV, i tried using replication, but it didn’t work. Maybe my TrueNAS is broken, i don’t know.
Replication would’ve worked if your pool had been healthy to start with. ZFS won’t let you replicate a distressed pool. I suspect the same is true with trying to extend the VDEV. You’re essentially out of options, and destroying your pool and creating a new pool on fresh drives is your only path forward.
Before you create a new pool on new drives, try to run several SMART tests (short/long/conveyance), as well as badblocks to verify the hardware is healthy and won’t succumb to infant mortality.
