With the Fangtooth launch less than two weeks away, Kris and Chris bring news of a pair of hotfixes for Electric Eel and CORE 13.3. Chris shares a bit of bad news on the new Intel Battlemage discrete GPUs, Kris gives a history lesson on the move from UFS to ZFS. There’s a great technical question from a viewer on recordsize and its interaction with ZFS’s copy-on-write nature, and both Kris and Chris look at a Reddit users’ “burning” question - is his system cooked?

Good topics. I especially enjoyed the trip down memory lane when Kris was discussing the history/features of ZFS. And of course looking forward to Fangtooth release right around the corner.

I must correct you guys on one thing from the beginning of the video.
Please don’t hate me. I’m a nice person!
“Vdev removal” is not only meant for “shrinking” your pool. A common use-case for it is to simplify your pool and actually grow its capacity.
Here is the comment I made on the bug report, so I’ll just paste it in here because I’m lazy:
From another thread of which this bug report originated:
This bugfix is very important, and I’m glad it’s also being committed to TrueNAS Core 13.3 and upstream OpenZFS as well.
