Replication Tasks more info

Hi.

New to Truenas coming from QNAP, I am having trouble setting up replication of data, most likely it’s my mis-understanding of what this task does.

What I am trying to do is create a backup of the contents of Dataset one, to Dataset two located on another drive in the same local device, ie: 6 x SSD in one NAS device, and would also like to send this data to another device.

I set this up using Replicant task, and it did replicate the data from the source to the destination successfully.

Then I modified the data in the source drive, ie removed one file and manually re-run the task, it failed with.

Target dataset ‘Seagate/Vault” does not have matching snapshots but has data (eg ‘314000.mp4) and replication from scratch is not allowed. Refusing to overwrite existing data

Am I mis-interpreting what this feature does, I was under the asumption as the files of the source drive are modified, when the next sync runs it would replicate the changes to the destination folder ?.

I have ticked / unticked all options such as start from scratch etc, with no luck, it just refuses to run a second time, it knows a file has been deleted ie 314100,mp4.

I tried the replicate from scratch option, from my understanding this will replicate the entire folder again ?, if this is so I don;t want to do this I just want the changes in the source folder to be reflected in the destination folder without having to re-copy the entire contents.

Interesting thing is I deleted the tasks rebotted the Nas, and tried to delete the files it replicated, I can delete the files off the drive but the files are replaced instantly even though there are no tasks.

Your help is appreciated as I am slightly confused now.
