Rsync stuck at 100Mbit/s on aGigabit network

Hi all

I am slowly getting up to speed with TrueNAS, I’ve built two small servers which I plan to use as Main and Backup.

I’ve finally got Rsync to work FROM OpenMediaVault TO TrueNAS.

The transfer speed is excruciatly slow - it looks like it’s capped to 100Mbit/s but I tried transferring a file manually to both OMV and TrueNas and - as you can see from the spike - it goes to full Gigabit speed. I tried on OMV and I can transfer to Gigabit speed too so network is not an issue.

Now, I understand RSync is not just transferring but these are large video files, gigabytes each most of the time.

OMV is on a very low power system but I see the CPU not too loaded. TrueNAS system is not breaking a sweat.

This pace it will take me forever, is this supposed to happen with such large files?

Thanks

I found the solution myself: de-selecting “compress” removed the “cap”.

I’d imagine OMV was not powerful enough in compressing - or maybe the extra data processing was crippling the speed.

It’s back to 1Gbit/s now.
