Having import my previous config from Core into a fresh Scale install, the truenas_admin has been deleted: despite some initial trouble setting up a new non root user (at the time i didn’t set a valid home folder for this user) everything Is working fine… So i can suppose Is not mandatory until you have another admin user
According to the TrueNAS documentation, you should set up your own administrative user by creating a new user and giving the account Full Admin privileges.
There is no need to delete or change the original truenas_admin account. You can disable the password if you don’t want that account to be available.
Thanks for the reply. Disabling the password for truenas_admin is not possible, but I disabled all access-possibilities except SMB, because this attribute cannot be changed.
I created a new user with a new group for admin now.
Why not? You just need to log in as another full admin user, edit truenas_admin, uncheck Allow Access options and select Disable Password. I just tested and it works fine for me.
Edit: Having SMB Access selected seems to disable the Disable Password option. I’m surprised you have it enabled because in 25.10 the same logic preventing you from disabling SMB access also prevents enabling it on that account. Did you enable SMB access for truenas_admin in an earlier version?
I don’t think you can delete the default admin or the root users. you can only disable them by disabling the password when logged in another full admin. The system will also not let you delete the logged in user.
