25.10 RC1 - Unable to delete TrueNAS_Admin account

I recently wiped my 25.04 machine and started a fresh install of 25.10 RC1. I ran the installer and had it create the truenas_admin user. I got into the webui after initial install, setup my pool and dataset. Then, I created my own user group and user account for myself. Gave it all of the administrator privileges and logged into the webui with my new user. I then went into the users page and tried to delete the truenas_admin user account and there literally is not even a delete button. I thought this was strange so I reinstalled the OS and chose create user via the web ui method after installation. And the user account is automatically inputted as truenas_admin without the ability to change it. So I then tried to delete the truenas_admin user via the TrueNAS CLI on the host directly and it would not let me.

I remeber back in the early days of SCALE that this was also the situation where you could not delete the truenas_admin user. Then eventually they allowed the deletion of this user account. Are we back to this state where we are unable to delete the truenas_admin account?!

I know this seems silly to most but i really just want to be able to use my own user account without anything else. Can anyone confirm this issue on their own system or advise on how to delete this user account?

EDIT: So I imported my old config file and it seemed to correct this user issue. I no longer have the truenas_admin user and I only have my single user account with its respective user group on the system… But my question still stands. On a fresh install of 25.10 RC1 is it not possible to delete the truenas_admin user and group?

Docs show to Disable.

The docs walk you through the simple “Disable Password” process which essentially locks out the account. I want to delete it all together. Is this a bad practice/not allowed? I have 3 different machines on 25.04.2.4 and none of them have this built-in truenas_admin account because that version has the ability to delete it (All 3 have been running the same install since 24.04). All three machines only show two accounts: root & austin.

ElectricEel-24.10.2.4 is the earliest version I have in a VirtualBox VM to play with. I don’t see any option to delete.

You can wait to see if anyone from TrueNAS company posts.

Ahhh, so maybe my installs were just carried forward for so long without the truenas_admin user account that I never new this was a thing. That probably makes the most sense. When i imported an old config file into the 25.10 RC1 install it no longer had the truenas_admin account but started giving me errors about my “austin” account not having proper admin rights.

Thanks for bouncing ideas back and forth with me. I’ll just go back to a fresh install of 25.10 RC1 to play with and build up from scratch. I can live with the truenas_admin account just being “disabled” I was more curious than anything as to why I couldn’t delete it.
