I have a TrueNAS scale system. My usage is fairly low - I access the system once or twice a week. Is there anyway to put the system to sleep after a period of inactivity?

What about putting the whole system to sleep (aka suspend to RAM)?
Since truenas is designed as an enterprise solution i think itâs not possible.
I thought this might be the answer. However, there are enterprise solutions that do support sleep.
Especially if you have a fleet of servers and and your load is variable, it is beneficial to put some systems to sleep.
If it was be a feature that would be of interest to paying truenas customers in the enterprise space they would have implemented it, but since itâs not available i guess their customers donât have a need for putting their storage servers to sleep.
I completely understanding where this is coming from. Itâs not a criticism, just asking if anybody even tried to make this work.
I donât think anyone has - I could imagine in your particular use case that it could be of benefit to actually shut the system down & then have wake on packet enabled in bios (if supported). As long as you donât mind the boot time that few times a week you do use it

I do either sleep or shutdown 100% of my secondary and thertiary TN systems.
I can give exact command tomorrow, but basically it is ârtcwake -m off -t whenâ or rtcwake -m mem -t when.
when=date/time when to come back up (secret sauce!).
Sleep if it comes on more than once a day. Off if only once a day or week.
Add to cron. (In your case, I would use off).
That is pretty awesome actually - does it require a specific time or could it be done on in a âon demandâ sense too?
