Sleep Nvidia GPU when not used

Hi,

I have a basic fanless nvidia gpu to handle a screen when I need to access to my server parameters without the web client.
But when I don’t connect a screen it appears to heat for nothing, so is there a way to disable/deep-sleep the gpu when no screen are connected in order to save energy ?

not from the gui, only via cli and options available for nvidia-smi, but i believe changes done via cli are not persistent through updates, only restarts

a script can do it ?

yes a script could do it

Ok thanks,

It’s a gt730, not too old ?
Do you which parameter/command should I use ?

Sorry, this is much too old to be supported by the current nVidia driver in 25.10.6, which is 580.173.02. The last driver with GT730 support was 470.256.02 from 2024.

So the nvidia-smi won’t work ?

Not without some finagling. I found this resource where you can load older nVidia drivers.

biohazardious/truenas-nvidia-driver-updater: Build and deploy any NVIDIA proprietary/open driver as a systemd-sysext image (nvidia.raw) for TrueNAS SCALE — fully automated via Docker.

Once you’ve got this installed, then nvidia-smi should work. YMMV

Ok thanks you very much I’ll take a look !
