TrueNAS 25.04.2.5 is Now Available!

The TrueNAS team is pleased to release TrueNAS 25.04.2.5!

This is a small maintenance release that includes fixes centered around Enterprise usage and an SMB version update for security fixes.

25.04.2.5 Notable Changes

  • Samba version updated from 4.21.7 to 4.21.9 (4.21.8 Release Notes | 4.21.9 Release Notes)
  • Automatically restart dependent services when Directory Services recovers from a FAULTED state (NAS-137009).
  • Adjust alerting for attached USB devices to avoid spamming Proactive Support alerts during TrueNAS Enterprise hardware troubleshooting sessions (NAS-137844).
  • Improve debug logging for Directory Services troubleshooting (NAS-138057).
  • Revert a limit on NFS hosts and networks in 25.04 (NAS-138074). This is being evaluated for reintroduction in a future TrueNAS release.

See the 25.04.2.5 Release Notes for more details.

Didn’t expect a further 25.04 update ahead of 25.10

She might only be a “small maintenance update”, but the download servers are getting hammered - v. slow download speeds!

As a general rule, we maintain a release (e.g, 25.04) with any important updates until the next release (e.g, 25.10) is mature and recommended for mission-critical users.

These updates might be unimportant for most users, but there’s probably some customer who is benefiting.

Security updates (like this one) have broader appeal, even if they are not noticeable in system behavior.

It’s very useful that some users update, test, and report before the vast majority do update.

Sorry, by that I meant, I was expecting that - given we are almost at the end of month ‘10’ - the email update notification would be referring to 25.10, rather than a 25.04 point release

I also expected the 25.10

We have a whole 9 days left to hit our schedule…

I keep getting timeouts partway through the download of the new update. Download speed <1MB/s.

Is this due to the AWS outage?

FYI… it looks like about 15,000 systems have been updated to 25.04.2.5 with no obvious issues.

Thanks for the testing, even if nothing is found.

I doubt it… best to start a new thread in General with details of location and ISP.

In less than a week, TrueNAS 25.04.2.5 has become the second most widely used version. That’s the fastest adoption ever.

The top 3 versions are all Fangtooth (25.04). Electric Eel is next.

There are no apparent issues and we’ll review the software status page in the next couple of weeks.

Goldeye (25.10) release is the next version to be delivered. The cycle will then continue.
