Goldeye (25.10) Takes Over

We posted a blog on 25.10.2 (prematurely).

With TrueNAS 25.10.2.1, the software is now where we expected it to be, so the slightly updated blog is worth reposting for advice and any questions.

TrueNAS 25.10.2: Goldeye Takes Over

**

Since its initial launch in late October of 2025, TrueNAS 25.10 “Goldeye” has over 110,000 successful deployments, making it the most widely used version of TrueNAS today. Offering improved functionality and higher quality, TrueNAS 25.10 also provides the versioned APIs required by TrueNAS Connect, and serves as the foundation for the next generations of TrueNAS.

TrueNAS 25.10.2 features over 100 fixes and improvements. Both the TrueNAS Engineering team and the TrueNAS Community helped to identify and resolve issues, further refining the features and stability of TrueNAS. This prepares TrueNAS 25.10.2 for its deployment in mission-critical Enterprise systems. With the new and improved update process, version notes and suitability can be reviewed directly from within the TrueNAS UI, with the Software Status page identifying when your system is ready for the latest release.

TrueNAS 25.10.2.1 is a hotfix release that includes several fixes to issues observed in TrueNAS 25.10.2. TrueNAS admins are recommended to use this.

TrueNAS 25.10.2 builds on the features and fixes documented in our previous blogs, from BETA and RC1 through our Release and first major update. With TrueNAS 25.10.2 stabilizing the current release, the plans are laid for it to remain the stable release of TrueNAS for 2026, as indicated in the TrueNAS 26 Plans. Over the next 6 months, we expect the majority of TrueNAS systems will upgrade and enjoy the benefits of new capabilities and increased quality in TrueNAS 25.10.2 - the last of the TrueNAS releases to wear a “fish” codename before the transition to the annual release cadence of TrueNAS 26. Goldeye has taken over from Fangtooth, Electric Eel, Dragonfish, and all legacy releases.

TrueNAS Connect Progresses

TrueNAS Connect continues its maturation with TrueNAS 25.10.2.1 and the release of both the free Foundation and available Plus Tiers. Thanks to the over 7,000 early adopters who have been providing constructive feedback, TrueNAS Connect continues to improve, with rapid fixes and new features rolling out on a regular basis, including the new WebUI for ZFS replication management available in TrueNAS Connect Plus.

TrueNAS Connect makes replication easy to set up between your systems.

TrueNAS Connect makes it easier than ever to get started with TrueNAS 25.10, with a streamlined web-driven setup process that helps you get your TrueNAS system running and configured, including automatic SSL certificate configuration and optional cloud-based alerting.

Look for more news on the next phase of TrueNAS Connect as the launch of TrueNAS 26 approaches, with support for browser-based file management and WebSharing capabilities.

TrueNAS Performance for AI Workloads

The TrueNAS R60 is the first TrueNAS platform to use the new support for Terabit Ethernet technology in TrueNAS 25.10. With fast DDR5 RAM, PCIe Gen5 support, and NVMe-oF with RDMA extensions, the R60 is built to deliver maximum performance in a very compact 1U platform. Supporting up to 12 NVMe SSDs in its main chassis, the R60 has been verified to deliver up to 60GB/s and a typical latency of less than 0.2ms.

TrueNAS 25.10.2 introduces support for the same performance capabilities in a platform with optional High Availability support, designed to support production AI workloads and other extreme performance needs. Reach out to the TrueNAS team if you’re interested in this capability.

Next Steps for TrueNAS

TrueNAS 25.10.2.1 is the latest stable version of TrueNAS, and is now getting most of the maintenance focus. This will support its position as the primary version of TrueNAS over the next 6 months.

TrueNAS 25.10.2.1 is a hotfix release that includes several fixes to issues observed in TrueNAS 25.10.2. TrueNAS admins are recommended to use this.

The TrueNAS team is hard at work with the next version, now called TrueNAS 26. Additional information and a BETA release version will be made available in April 2026. TrueNAS 26 builds on all the existing Goldeye capabilities, and we’ve already had a great response to some of its new features.
