After signing up for TrueNAS Connect Pro and configuring my router appropriately, I noticed a few issues with the current state of things:
-
There is no way to increase the idle timeout for the website and right now that timeout is far too short for a monitoring tool that presumably should keep running all day or even longer. This is really a big nuisance that should get addressed very quickly.
-
Configuring enclosures is very barebones: If you need two different groups of bays (say for SATA/SAS drives and for NVMe drives or for 5.25" drives and 3.5" drives) and thus need two different bays with different sizes, right now all you can do is to select “Front Load” and check the "Has rear bays?"option.
It would be far better to be able to freely configure multiple groups of bays, with each being able to have different size and orientation and a different name and choose those groups in any sequence. In that way an enclosure could e.g. be defined to have a front and a rear bay for 5.25 SATA/SAS drives and two bays with 4 drives each, each representing a PCIe 4xNVMe adapter card.
So is it worth it at the moment? For most folks likely not for $30 and probably not for $60. If issue #1 gets fixed, it’s a much closer call, but ideally issue #2 needs addressing in the medium term as well.
At the moment I just see the $30 (and the future $60) as a donation to the development of TrueNAS, so I’m okay with that. But I’d be more happy, if TrueNAS Connect got a bit better.
