TrueSearch & WebShare don't work

I’ve mentioned, in the TrueNas 26 announcement thread, having issues with TrueSearch & Spotlight, and WebShare, had a bug on the issue closed, got a DM from a senior developer asking me more information, and was told by another developer to start a new topic. It seems to me that there should be Categories for each of these, but until then this will have to do.

I’m running:

TrueNAS Scale 26 nightlies (now post beta) 26.0.0-MASTER+20260524-020151
macOS 15.7.7 and macOS 26.5.

TrueSeach is enabled, all of my SMB shares are set as Multi-Protocol.

Issues:

Both sort of “worked” a couple of days ago. for the first time in that I at least got results. Some of it was wrong, and there were things missing that should have been found. Today they’re not working at all.

WebShare does not start automatically, despite being set to in System>Services.

WebShare search does not work, either for filenames or plain text file contents.

macOS Finder searches do not work for either a search limited to the current directory or “Network”, or when using Filenames>Name Contains or Content>Contains. Though an unqualified search often shows results local to my mac.

Just after I submitted this post, I noticed a DM from the senior developer that I mentioned. He says that a fix and other improvements are coming in beta 2.

Running a post beta 2 nightly.

Webshare won’t open due to a security issue. Firefox: Error Code: SSL_ERROR_INTERNAL_ERROR_ALERT, Chrome has a similar objection.

Searching my TrueNAS shares in macOS Finder still doesn’t work. (Or I’m just too stupid to figure out how to use it.)

On the other hand the NASty project which brings together a Web GUI, bcachefs, and NixOS seems to work quite well. All the file sharing benefits of TrueNAS/ZFS without having to wait until next year for AnyRAID.

If you’ve encountered an issue with these services in BETA2 please file a bug ticket. This is why we have beta testing.

I have the same issue and can’t figure it out, why it doesn’t work. The only time that it worked was with “26.04.0-MASTER-20260224-092256” but also only through the Finder not Spotlight.

Hopefully you follow awalkerix advice, that way maybe you will aid in the understanding of what is going wrong.
