On today’s episode of TrueNAS Tech Talk, TrueNAS 25.10-RC1 is just a few weeks from deployment, and there’s a few helpful fixes since the Beta release - then Kris and Chris will dig into the big news; OpenZFS 2.3.4 is in 25.10-RC1, and despite the small version number bump, it’s bringing a big list of fixes. Kris and Chris will go through some of the highlights of the release notes, and how they’ll impact and benefit the performance, reliability, and features of TrueNAS. Finally, a teaser for TrueNAS 26.04 “Halfmoon” - early testing of the new MacOS Spotlight support is looking good, so if you’re on the dev update train, give it a shot and let them know how it’s going!

New macOS Spotlight integration is incredible news! I had no idea this was a possibility and now I’m super excited. Thanks for the continued improvements making macOS a first-class client

Have you planned to bring back the recycle bin checkbox in the SMB shares UI?

For some strange reason, I can’t open a ticket to request it.

If it worked on previous release and there is no mention in release notes, then its a bug. I can help you report a bug.

If its from an old release, then it would be a Feature Request (Forum Category) to bring it back.

Just looked at the settings of one of my SMB shares in 25.10 Beta 1 and the “Export Recycle Bin” option is there.

I have already reported a bug: I was told to open a request for a new feature

and that is exactly what I can’t do, the system (jira) gives me an error every time I try to open a ticket.

Feature requests are not filed in jira, but here on the forum in the feature request section

ok, I don’t have “legacy share” as an option in my system.

i have default share, time machine, multi-protocol, time locked, private datasets and external

If you had a share using No Preset before upgrading, it converts to Legacy Share in 25.10. You can’t create a new share using the Legacy Share preset.

Our advice if you want to recover files is to use ZFS snapshots instead of the SMB recycle bin.

Are there any downsides for me if I switch to default share besides the recycle bin stopping to work? (It won’t be deleted i think?)

You’d lose access to a few other advanced configuration options, if you’re using them.

Filed a small UI bug with replication tasks. It’s existed since 25.04, or maybe earlier, but I kept forgetting to submit it.

Also, is there a post upgrade script or something that runs? I noticed an elevated level of IOwait on my overall CPU usage, but I can’t seem to correlate it to anything.

Well, I’d say that it’s not quite the same thing. For simple use (but not only), the recycle bin would be the simplest and quickest solution rather than searching for a file in the snapshots, considering that it may have been created and deleted within the programmed time interval.

I believe that restoring the feature, which was never removed except for the related checkbox, even with limitations, would be a solution that many would welcome.
