Select a Temporary Storage Location (either Memory Device or a Pool) for the manual update file. Click Choose File and select the TrueNAS-SCALE.update file you downloaded.
So I guess a network file share wont do. Maybe I am not getting something here, how can I copy something on the TrueNAS local storage and than excess it from the TrueNAS GUI?
SOLVED: I did not notice you could select a storage pool at the top of the update menu.
That’s if you want to do a one shot, manual migration. I did a two step only using the gui. Chose 24.10 as the first train, then 25.xx to get to Fangtooth. Not too messy. Once it’s scale you can breathe easy so the first big update is the scary one the way I did it.
If your running any virtual machines proceed carefully as they tend to have issues from upgrade to upgrade. Especially if you plan to go all the way up to Fangtooth. Tread Lightly.
Solid advice. I just killed all my vm’s and jails because I spent a few months finding apps that match on a truenas test box, and checking them off the list. The ARr stack is well documented, don’t need vm’s or jails for that stuff anymore. It’s just a hassle to move them around.
The lighter your system is and the simpler you can make it the better it will survive the operation. Even some auxiliary smb options can piss it off. Measure twice, cut once.
Agreed and I’ve been doing the same however I still have some things in VMs that I can’t move to apps, like running some Windows and Linux systems for my home lab that I use for testing.
