Upgrade Plan: Dragonfish → Electric Eel. I have concerns. anyone have imput? here is my Plan. Tell me what you think

Upgrade Plan: Dragonfish → Electric Eel

  1. Back up config file
Store it somewhere safe (PC, cloud, or a USB stick)

  2. -Document My system-
Make note of current dataset layout, apps, network settings, ACLs, and any auxiliary parameters.

  3. -Check release notes-
Look at iXsystems Release Notes for Electric Eel to see new features, known issues, or deprecated options

  4. -Remove custom auxiliary parameters-
as they may break between major versions. If I rely on any, list them out so I can re-add later if needed.

  5. -Ensure backups for critical data-
Snapshots on pool are good, but ideally have at least one external backup for peace of mind.

  6. -Verify Apps & Services-
If using TrueCharts, confirm the train is compatible with Electric Eel. (noted I saw alot of reviews/people talking about how Nextcloud did not play well with the new update to Electric Eel

  7. -VMs & Containers-
Make sure VMs shut down cleanly.
Export any critical VM configs if possible.

8.-Post-Upgrade Steps-
Confirm Boot Environment…
After reboot, check that Electric Eel is now the “Now/Reboot” entry under System Settings.

  1. -Ensure SMB, NFS, and network settings are intact.
Check Apps → confirm they started. If not, redeploy from config.

10.-Update All Apps If Needed-
Once on Electric Eel, update apps to their latest versions.

11.-Run Health Checks-
Storage → scrub pools.
-Ensure SMART tests are still scheduled-
-Verify UPS service-

12.-Rollback Plan (If Things Break)-
If Electric Eel gives Me problems:
Reboot Into last Dragonfish boot environment.

I think you will be stuck with recreating APPS. There have also been alot of other changes between Scale versions on the apps catalog update notice in Announcements. TrueCharts isn’t supported.

Your #4 may cause troubles. What Aux Params are you currently running? It gives other a chance to comment.

yea, i did have to recreate apps… also decided to recreate my datasets… pretty much a fresh install… haha… i had a kinda un organized data tree… so i was able to do some cleaning up and makei it much more like i wanted as well as plan the process up to speed up app Group ACL’s streamlining my installallatio of applications. like the fact i was able to pretty much rebuild… make it much more user friendly… noticing the diffrence between the docker verses K8 set up. docker is much more complex to set up apps… but great in the long run. yea.
loved the expirece of just starting fresh and pretty much rebuilding as needded… i made sure to take lots of logs and information down about how i wanted the new setup to look… and lots of screen images of my old set up… worth the upgrade for sure! heck yea man. way more applications to use…
