I’m running Bluefin 22.12 on a TrueNAS server and am wondering if I can update to the latest release, 24.10, without having to setup everything again? I have two apps, Plex and qBittorent, lots of SMB shares and snapshot tasks, and some other stuff, but nothing too advanced.
We only recommend upgrading from last prior major. You need to install cobia & then dragonfish.
Please review the information in the release notes.
In short, no, you should follow the upgrade path and upgrade one step at a time:
Depending on how you set your apps up, you may need to tinker a bit with those settings as well. The swap from Kubernetes to Docker can potentially work out on it’s own, but it’s good to have some idea of how your storage is set up for your apps (using host paths or not, for example). Permissions may need some work as well.
Okay, I’ll upgrade one major version at the time then. Thanks!
If you’re using truecharts apps, keep in mind that those wont migrate from dragonfish to EE and you need to manually backup the data and re-create the apps with the new docker backend and then restore your app config backups
Hey I had the same question…
but is that guidance still valid given this option:
Users can skip major versions with a fresh ISO install followed by a configuration file upload. Carefully review release notes for each skipped major version before upgrading.
I have no apps running only 2 VM’s
Well first reply was from an iX employee who said it’s still recommended to udpate to the next major version and not skip any. So i’d say yes it’s still valid.
