vCenter 7 vCLS Snapshots

Hello. I have a vCenter v7 3-node cluster using TrueNAS Scale as the datastore backend. I set up periodic snapshots of the datastore using the VM Integration feature in TrueNAS. This works great except for the vCLS service VMs that vCenter creates. They are not allowed to have snapshots taken manually and multiple alerts are created for every scheduled snapshot.

Creating VMWare snapshot dd89b96f-4bb9-4760-bdfc-7353d744eebb of VM vCLS-0532597a-f6c7-4428-a144-377cdfe92882 at vcntr-1 failed: Permission to perform this operation was denied…

This is fine, but how can I filter the alerts? Thanks.

I am not aware of a way to filter like that.

A workaround would be for you to store those VMs in a different dataset, one where you choose not to run any periodic snapshots tasks.

If your hardware can support it, upgrading to vSphere 8 solves the problem, as the vCLS VMs have no datastore at all.

They are created on the fly from nothing whenever they are needed, and run completely in RAM, with no backing datastore at all.

Thanks for the quick response. This is what I will do.

Really? This is good to know, but I have to double-check the HCL, I think my machines may have fallen off after v7. Thank you!
