Virtualization in TrueNAS - Future Plans and Enterprise Readiness | TrueNAS Tech Talk (T3) E031

On today’s TrueNAS Tech Talk, Kris and Chris discuss the big question - what’s going on with VMs and Containers in TrueNAS? They talk about the big changes that happened in 25.04 with Incus, the upcoming return of the classic Virtualization menu for 25.04.2, and what the plan is to achieve an Enterprise Ready virtualization solution for upcoming versions TrueNAS. There’s also information on Fast Dedup and Block Cloning - what’s the difference, and which one can you leverage? Finally, there’s been some shakeup in the Apps Catalog, with Jellyfin rocketing up the leaderboard, Tailscale taking the crown for VPNs, and the Immich storage configuration changes. Tune in to hear more!

Makes me think if any other parts of TrueNAS are CE only and non-enterprise, so we can be prepared if they experience any big changes in future.

You say you didnt realize how many people use VMs. Maybe more detailed analytics would help with this? For example anonymous stats about how many users use any particular feature and such. So you would have better idea about how people use TrueNAS.

VMs, LXC, GPUs, PCIe/USB pass-thru are not actively sold to Enterprises with HA systems. Community Apps are not barred, but not encouraged.
