Want to re-install Truenas

I’m caught in a loop. I installed Truenas on an old PC with a single 2TB HDD. I since found that this is not a supported configuration. However, I found a helpful video on YouTube that provides a back door method to create a partition when installing, which I want to try. However, every time I boot up with the Installer USB in the drive it goes straight to Truenas. I think the underlying reason is that I was previously getting a “Secure Boot Violation: Invalid signature detected” and had to turn off secure boot mode. I’m guessing that the boot up procedure now still views the boot USB as a security risk and bypasses it. So I want to erase the installation on the HDD but don’t know how to do this. Any help would be appreciated.

P.S. I’ve tried recreating the Install USB several times. Both in ISO mode and DD mode.

Have you tried selecting the USB drive from the boot menu or changing the boot order in the BIOS?

I think that’s unlikely to be the case.

Also, I don’t fully understand what your end goal is. Are you planning to use the same 2tb drive for boot-pool and data-pool simultaneously? If so, it is possible, but highly discouraged. You can use any cheap small ssd as a boot drive (I personally use 16G optane connected via a usb-m2 adapter). Soooo imo, saving 15-20$€£‎ is just not worth the hassle…

Yes, the “Removable Drive” (i.e. USB) is at the top of the list.

Only two things come to mind. Boot from USB is disabled somewhere in the BIOS, or there’s a problem with the USB, either hardware or software. Thing is is either of those were true you wouldn’t have originally been able to install TrueNAS unless you changed a setting after or the drive broke after.

Try selecting the USB directly from the boot menu when you first switch on, on my PC it’s f7 but may not be on yours. Other that that I’m stumped.

EDIT: To rule out a dodgy USB you could try booting without the HDD connected.
