Win 95/98 VM on Scale

Hello!
I’m looking in to make a VM (or serveral) for a oldschool games LAN with some friends and insted of making all their PCs dualboot (and install games etc.) I thought that it might be easier to make a VM and install all the games there and then duplicate the VM:s.

Read on an old post that it was not possible to make a VM of win 95/98 but the question was for “freeNAS” so thought I ask again. But it might be a “windows-side” problem and not “truenas-side”…

Why use TrueNAS for this?

Windows 95 and 98 are so light that each PC can run a VM of it. No dual-booting needed. You could probably even use DOSbox for oldschool games.

Also give a look into Batocera, because most probably you will gain more benefit than run directly old Windows (Eg It runs live from any USB stick)

If i were you ( i do similar things) use Vmware Workstation, create 1 VM and configure it/install all the games/software and let everyone install VMware and copy the VM to them. just change the names on the network.

We run old school C&C and Quake (new versions are meh).

Okey! Thank you guys for your opinions, I’ll look in to the options!

I think DOSBox-X should work for this.
