Windows to TrueNas Slow SMB Writes

booted his PC into linux

transfer rates shown are from his PC to Truenas

here is the iperf3 test from PC to truenas after booting that PC into linux

so the hardware is all the same but the OS is different

it seems something is going on between windows and truenas that is limiting transfer speeds

Are you using an HBA card or some other PCI SATA card? I was having a similar issue not getting above 35MB/s from my Windows 10 Plex server over to my recently built TrueNas box while my desktop 3 feet away would move data at full speed. I thought it might have been some stupid protocol limitation using Windows Remote Desktop. I attached a monitor and keyboard and same results. I changed NICs. No change. Last thing I tried is I moved my drives from my HBA to a SATA port on the motherboard and I am now moving data at full speed.

Hi i have not checked this tab in a long while. But in short the talk was on a Super Micro 36Bay of 8TB, 3.5 drives… and a total just over 40 drives in the unit. So with out popping the top to review its setup. I feel confident and believing their is a couple cards in their. That all said. over all performance is great to every thing that is not on samba. NFS very fast. Have seen it around 4Gbit on the network… This super micro has a intel dual SFP NIC with a 10Gbit 10Gtek cable… cant remember what they called that cable that is premade with the transceivers already made to it… but has one of them. That was transferring to two different NFS based devices. That have 2.5Gbit each.
In short i got on here hopping to find a why samba, AKA to windows was just slow. done forgot how slow as i just send the plex media thru another linux / NFS, server.
