I’m planning out a purchase for a TrueNAS Mini R in the near future. The general plan is to get a dozen 4TB WD Red SSDs to populate it.
From checking online, it looks like the trays in the R series don’t easily accommodate 2.5" drives, and buying mounts with the TrueNAS itself is expensive ($30 each?).
Can anyone confirm that I will need an adapter to mount a 2.5" drive for the R series, and if so, recommend one I can buy in bulk for 12 drives, without being overly expensive for just a mount?
Thank you,
-Geoffrey
Bumping this for visibility - any advice would be appreciated.
By the looks of it you would most likely want something like this Pardon our interruption...
Here is a video of the Mini R if you haven’t seen it already.
Although they are fairly universal I’ve come across differences over the years so perhaps get your Mini R first and purchase one to check they fit nice.
These toolless ones are neat but they require a compatible tray which Im unsure if the Mini R has.
You can see in this pic why. Toolless compatible on the left fitted with a toolless adaptor.
I wound up going with these:
$8 each, fits the standard spec, no issues since installing them (only been a few days, but nothing noticeably wrong out of the gate).
