Add a folder to dataset

Hey everyone. I’ve went into my SMB and created a folder called “home-movies”, however when I navigate the Trunas GUI, go to datasets, open all my folders, I don’t see the folder in my SMB share. How do I add this? Or should I create in the GUI, then move the files over?

Truenas version 25.04.2.4 if that matters.

Thanks.

Folders and Datasets are two different things. Only datasets will appear within the TrueNAS UI under the ‘Datasets’ tab. It’s perfectly normal to create folders within datasets but you shouldnt expect to see them from within the UI.

Could this be the confusion here?

Sorry, I know they are different things. I want to be able to see this folder in my dataset. Right now, the GUI doesn’t show the file at all. So just wondering if its possible to add it?

(edit just can’t seem to press the correct buttons here, haha.)

That’s correct, and it won’t. Again, the GUI isn’t a file manager.

Damn, was hoping I wouldn’t have to transfer files over. Too bad there isn’t a way to do it. Thanks for the help!

I’m not sure why you want to “see the folder in GUI” and what you mean by “transfer files over”. Which files?
TrueNAS GUI manages the NAS and its shares; the content is managed from the client through SMB.
