Solved (education) Media folders missing in TrueNAS Dataset but they exist

I am new to Linux, TrueNas, and setting up a homelab so please be patient with me and thank you for the help!

I have plex installed and on my shared Dataset, I have a SMB share called “Media” under that I have several folders, including “Movies”, “TV”, and “Music” when I logged in to the TrueNas Admin window a couple of days ago, the folders are missing when I look under Dataset.

However, my folders are there, still being seen by Plex as well as I can connect to them from my Window machine.

Any help is greatly appreciated as I do not want to lose the data!

Thanks!

The Datasets page in the Web UI only shows ZFS Datasets. Folders are not shown in the Web UI.

The GUI only shows Datasets and not folders. You can use the CLI / shell to view the folders inside the Dataset if you want.

Folders are not displayed in the UI. Only datasets are.

In the dataset view - you only see datasets. Not folders.

Now datasets may look like folders and indeed act like them in many regards, but they are (a bit) different.

We need all hands on deck.

Can you confirm that the information in posts 2, 3, 4, and 5 is correct?

I’m leaning towards post #4 as the solution.

No, I don’t think any of those is the issue. The issue is that the GUI only shows datasets, not folders.

@Jmayf05, the web GUI doesn’t include, and isn’t intended as, a file manager for the data on your server. This is a long-standing feature request (see one topic here: [Accepted] Internal Filemanager for TrueNAS Scale), and is currently slated to be in 26.04.

How do you do that? I’m new to all this.
